Located in the middle of the vast urban jungle that is Seoul, you’ll find a rather lush patch of nature piercing high into the sky. This is Namsan Park, the largest park in the city, and home to not only one of the highest peaks in the city, but also the iconic N Seoul Tower (also known as Namsan Tower), which can be seen from all parts of Seoul. Completed in 1971, and taking you up a further 270m, the tower is one of Seouls most popular attractions.

Namsan Mountain, which gives the park its name, takes you almost 300m high. The surrounding region offers plenty of ways to observe and explore. If you’re feeling active, you can take the steps up to the peak (you’re looking at a good 30 minutes or so). On a hot day, this probably isn’t the wisest of choices! There is a another option though, take the cable car right to the summit! Not only is it cheap, but you get a thrilling ride as you journey over the vast forest below. The cable car is located on the north side of the park, near to Myeongdong. Just keep an eye out for the cables, and work your way to its base.

While there are several things to do at the top, you’ll most likely be there to visit the observation tower, and go even further up into the clouds. Tickets can be booked on the day, just be careful of public holidays, as the crowds can reach a boiling point. The base of the tower is home to shops, cafes and various other points of interest, so take some time to have a look around.

The central location of the tower is what works perfectly. With it being pretty much slap bang in the middle of Seoul, you get by far the best views of all parts of the city. The deck itself is rather spacious, so you don’t feel too cramped, and the floor to ceiling windows, pointing to various parts of the world were a great touch. You can really see how much nature surrounds the city, from the vast Han River surging through the city, to the various mountains in the near horizon.

The cable car does offer a return ticket, but we chose a one way trip, to walk back down, which was far more forgiving in the boiling 30 degree heat! The park itself is very lush, with various points where you can see the concrete jungle peaking through the foliage. Just make sure you pop by one of the viewing points, which gives a simply stunning, uninterrupted vista.

Though N Seoul Tower isn’t the highest point you can go to, that would be the slick Lotte World Tower in the south east of the city, the location and beauty of the park itself, makes this one of the best ways to spend an afternoon on the capital.
