One of the places I was really looking forward to seeing during my trip to Rome was the impressive Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, and it definitely did not disappoint.
Making my way down towards the iconic Colosseum, I took the scenic route through the heart of ancient Rome. As we were staying nearby, it was an easy walk, heading west along the Roman Forum, surrounded by centuries of history, and before long I found myself arriving at a beautiful open plaza.
Rising majestically above Piazza Venezia, the impressive Monument to Victor Emmanuel II (also known as The Altar to the Fatherland) comes into view, standing proudly as one of Rome’s most recognisable landmarks with its grand staircase, towering columns, and incredible detail.

One of my favourite moments was heading up to the higher levels and looking out across the city. Seeing the rooftops of Rome stretching into the distance, with historic buildings and landmarks all around, was one of those travel moments where you just stop for a minute and take it all in.
I’m sharing some of my favourite photos from my visit below , little memories of a beautiful day exploring the Eternal City. 📸
