3 Amazing Rooftop Cafés & Restaurants in Marrakesh You Need to Visit

Marrakesh isn’t short of rooftop hangouts where you can soak up views across the clay rooftops of the Red City, whether you’re sipping a chilled iced latte or enjoying a delicious tagine. Here are some of the spots I loved during my trip to the city!

1. Atay Cafe

After our visit to the stunning Ben Youssef Madrasa, we followed the winding streets towards our next stop, the famous Secret Garden. Along the way, we spotted a cafe perched high above the bustling medina, and with the afternoon sun beating down, it seemed like the perfect place to take a break.

Atay Café is quite the hidden gem. While the entrance feels fairly modern, make your way up to the rooftop and you’re greeted with classic North African charm and sweeping views across the city. The café was pleasantly busy, a good sign, as we settled in with a chilled orange juice, an iced latte, and, of course, a delicious plate of hummus.

With free Wi-Fi and a fantastic rooftop terrace overlooking the rooftops of the Red City, it’s a great spot to relax, recharge, and take in the views.

2. Rooftop Restaurant Koulchi Zine

Staying in the heart of the medina, you’ll never be short of dinner options. Sometimes, though, the best approach is simply to trust your instincts and take a chance on a place that catches your eye.

We visited Rooftop Restaurant Koulchi Zine, located just south of the bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa. The restaurant is surprisingly large, and it took several flights of stairs to reach the rooftop terrace. The climb was well worth it. As evening fell, we were greeted by a cooling desert breeze, flickering lanterns, and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, an absolutely perfect setting for dinner.

We tucked into some delicious tagines, served with a side of red lentil soup, a classic taste of Moroccan cuisine. The service was prompt and friendly, and the staff were more than happy for us to wander around the rooftop and enjoy the views as the sun set over the city.

If you’re staying nearby, this rooftop gem is definitely worth adding to your list.

3. Mandala Society

While many places around Marrakesh retain a strong sense of tradition, Mandala Society a charming café located right next to our riad, offers a more contemporary, Western inspired feel. With its polished wooden interiors and stylish décor, it wouldn’t feel out of place in a trendy European city.

The café boasts an extensive selection of drinks and food, and we enjoyed browsing the menu while sitting at a lovely table overlooking the busy street below. There was no way we could resist ordering a pair of affogatos, a delicious combination of espresso poured over ice cream. If you’ve never tried one before, it’s an absolute must!

We were especially grateful that this little gem was practically on our doorstep. Had it been tucked away elsewhere in the city, we might never have stumbled across it. A fantastic spot for coffee, people watching, and a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the medina.
